The requirements for a 100% error free PCB layout is coherency between schematic symbols and footprints. It is often a time consuming and tedious task with many netlist issues and updates. The correct referral to footprint naming, pin numbering, component type, land pattern and other essentials from the related detailed data sheet.
To facilitate this quite tedious, de motivating and time-consuming manual process, GHD has developed an online FootprintSmartbrowser which can be accessed through a login. You can request your personal login here.
If you are a registered customer with GHD, there is access to the customer's own footprint library as well.
There are a myriad of search features that facilitate searching in the footprint library data base
Further you can create a Project Folder and by that associate all relevant footprints with the OrCAD schematic file in a semi-automatic way. This ensures a proper netlist file with the precise references just ready to be loaded into the layout program.
You can create multiple Project Folders so you can work with a design consisting of multiple PCBs.
The relationship between the schematic symbol-pin-naming and Footprints-pin-naming is automatically checked and generates a list of possible mismatch, errors and omissions.
